The Georgia Center for Resources & Support is currently seeking a Resource Advisor for the Middle Georgia area (primarily Regions 6). This position is a part time position, working a flexible week based on the needs of the community. This job is no more than 19 hours per week plus mileage.

The Resource Advisor provides information on local resources for post-adoption support and services, and advocates and coordinates services for adoptive/foster families and children. This person is responsible for direct work with adoptive/foster families, small groups, community resources, and local public relations. Contact with families will be through face-to-face meetings, personal phone calls, and e-mail.

The qualified candidate:
The Resource Advisor must have a minimum of a high school diploma and a minimum of two years of experience in the area of adoption and or foster care. Candidates must have a working knowledge of local resources for post-adoptive/foster/foster support, awareness of state post-legal programs and services, ability to advocate for and coordinate services, and excellent interpersonal and relational skills to work with families, small groups, and community resources. They must have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and a vehicle available to use on the job with reimbursement for mileage costs provided by the Center. Some minimal travel is required. They need to have good oral /written communication skills. Good to excellent computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft word to include power point; publisher; and excel. Applicant must have an interest in learning how to use other software such as Yahoo IM; Google Chat; and more. The Center utilizes web cam and other forms of communication. Applicant must be extremely computer literate and know their way around the computer and various programs. Additionally they need to demonstrate an interest in using or learning other forms of technology to get the job done.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting families in finding resources they need for their children
  • Setting up local training events and trainings for adoptive and foster families
  • Presents information about the Center to IMPACT groups, local DFCS, private adoption agencies and community groups
  • Identifying resources for assisting adoptive and foster families
  • Contributing to agency newsletter
  • Maintaining reports
